If you live in a big city like I do, you are probably accustomed to seeking refuge from the chaos inside of your home. Noise pollution, air pollution, traffic, smells, and crowds are all part of the daily stress. In an attempt to remedy this stress, we invest in nicer cars, black out curtains, and disinfectants.
But the pursuit of peace and comfort does not need to come at the expense of being disconnected from the natural world. Like every other animal on the planet, we have evolved to live in nature, and now all of a sudden we are separate? Mother Earth wants to come back into our homes. Here are my favorite tips for living a happier life by nature-fying your home.
5. Natural Light
Give the fluorescents a break. Sheer curtains are great for allowing natural light to seep into your home. For darker homes, strategically placed mirrors can help lighten up your space.
Integrate organic candles, sweet smelling flowers, and natural incense into your home. Smell can be used to create positive emotions, set a mood, and increase sex drive.
3. Natural Materials
Wood, cork, linen, terracotta, copper, gold, crystal, paper, hemp. There is a natural material alternative to every single plastic household item.
Plant flowers outside your windows that will attract birds. Consider hanging a natural wind chime so you can hear when there is a breeze.
My favorite tip of all, lots and lots of houseplants! They purify the air, promote good health, and beautify any space. I recommend at least one plant for every single room of the house.
